Charese and Salvador’s story is a beautiful testament to the idea that some relationships are simply meant to be, no matter how long the wait.

They first met as teenagers, at age 16, outside a market in Castro Valley. The attraction was instant, but the timing was spectacularly off. Instead of romance, they built a 19-year foundation of genuine friendship, a history so long and comfortable it became the perfect groundwork for their future.

After nearly two decades, the stars aligned, and their platonic friendship transformed. Four months of a romantic slow burn, filled with affectionate flirting and comforting cuddles, culminated in an intense first kiss.

Knowing the importance of their shared community—especially since Salvador had been present at the hospital shortly after the births of Charese's children—they agreed to move slowly, prioritizing their friendship above all else. This commitment allowed them to navigate the trials and tribulations of their first year of dating with trust and resilience.

Just one year in, Salvador knew Charese was his forever. After three years of dating and over a year of happily living together, he took the essential next step: thoughtfully asking for the blessing of Charese’s children and her father.

With their full approval, Salvador planned a truly unforgettable—and slightly chaotic—romantic adventure in Paris for Charese’s birthday.

He set up an elaborate scavenger hunt intended to lead her straight to the Eiffel Tower. However, being intimately familiar with Charese's endearing lack of direction sense, Salvador took the most romantic precautionary measure possible: he followed her in a series of disguises just to ensure she made it safely to each clue! The game came to an end when Charese hilariously caught him in his final disguise as a bumbling tourist.

Together, they set off for the Eiffel Tower, only to discover their last obstacle: the elevator to the second floor was out of service. This meant scaling a total of 674 stairs to the 2nd floor elevator. After the initial climb, they took the short, cramped elevator ride to the top with a pack of equally sweaty tourists. By the time they reached the top, Charese was only interested in cooling down and finding the nearest water source, making her utterly oblivious to the life-changing moment about to happen.

So, when she finally turned around and saw Salvador on one knee, holding a ring, she was genuinely surprised and completely overwhelmed with love (and perhaps a little relief that the climbing was over!). After she happily said yes, they shared a perfect, hard-earned kiss while the surrounding crowd of strangers burst into cheers, celebrating their beautifully imperfect journey to "I do."
